29th May  2015

Latest update on the floral baskets. Our first poster has gone up at The Leas Cliff Hall and very eye catching it looks. Do make a point of walking along there to see all yours names in Print. The flowers have decided its a bit too cold and are not quite ready yet so we have put a note on the poster to say they will be arriving approx. the second week in June. Jana has been to inspect them and they are going to look very colourful.

We have had a first donation for 2016 via Pay Pal.  And are hoping the posters will draw in more as the year goes on.

A banner will be hung along the railings by the Water Lift this weekend during The Folkestone Festivals Dog show and The Leas Village Fete.  When there is a gap it can be hung  by The Leas Cliff Hall.

A little noticed rag bag of a piece of land under the railings at the top of the slope to the delivery area of the LCH has been re-earthed and planted up with plants donated by people. Thank you Rhona for all your help with this. We have no idea how its going to turn out but the plants are actually  growing and anything there is better than the weeds.  Watch this  space and if you go past take a bottle of water and give them a drink.  So far none have been pinched. They have been walked on but they are tough and are hanging in there.

I know these baskets will give a lot of pleasure to people so lets hope they will respond by sponsoring for 2016.

I love the South Cliff Hotel who sold all their unclaimed lost property to fund part of their donation!

Have a good Season

19/02/2015 – PROGRESS SO FAR

Here are the names of individuals, organisations and businesses who have generously sponsored the floral baskets for this year.

We have two people who live further north but visit Folkestone from time to time who said how much they had missed the baskets and have sponsored.

They can see what a difference flowers make to people’s well being and enjoyment. It is an intangible thing that we perhaps don’t appreciate until they are no longer there.  So, let’s look  forward to giving much pleasure to our residents and all those visitors we are hoping will visit us this year, recommend us to their friends, and come again.

GETTING INVOLVED

Did you notice the floral baskets hanging on the lamp posts  along The Leas last year? They were sponsored by Folkestone Town Councillors, Shepway District Council, Kent County Council and especially by a number of local residents.

Feedback has been “We want them next year”.  “Thank you, they are a small item in the scheme of things but do much to lift the spirit” was one memorable comment.  It is so true and made all the effort seem worthwhile.  The baskets are now down and don’t the posts look bare!

How about this year?

We hope no-one is under the illusion that they will be a permanent feature annually and that they will be provided by SDC out of their budget.

Last year was made easy for us because of the large donation from councillors’ “honey pots”.  They are not allowed to repeat this generosity so it seems that  unless SDC can find room in their budget to fund them, highly unlikely given the economy, it will be down to you, the well known Great British Public and Local Businesses to help us and sponsor them for another year.

The Leas Cliff Hall is going to provide baskets along the railings of the hall this year and we will be liaising with them.

There are 64 baskets and the amount needed is £6400. This may seem a lot of money for flowers but the bulk of the costs is installation, maintenance and insurance for the bowser operator.  We have an excellent advertising package for businesses who may wish to sponsor extra special large amounts.

If you feel  you would like to see the baskets back again this year and would like to sponsor some flowers, however small the amount, please contact Pat.

As we are a registered charity we encourage you to Gift Aid your donation.

All sponsors names will appear on the advertising boards alongside the Leas Cliff Hall footpath.
